Accounting Manager

Job postings are funny.  Generally, they are a ridiculous wish list full of jargon, empty promises, and other non-specific information.  How can you really tell the differences in culture, the actual day-to-day responsibilities, and the pay package? It starts with being honest, so here we go:

  • Appreciates that the WA DOR, WA L&I, and WA ESD make the IRS look soft
  • Welcomes the challenge of delegating themselves out of their current position
  • Can explain the difference between accrual and cash accounting to a client
  • Indulges staff in the learning process instead of giving the quick answer
  • Able to identify why retained earnings does not roll forward
  • Guards client sensitive information more effectively than 256 bit encryption
  • Never been responsible for a late filing penalty
  • Is the first person to join a conference call instead of the last
  • Can spot check a balance sheet and income statement for red flags
  • Able to quantify the value they bring to clients and willing to defend that value when questioned
  • Wants to be measured by key performance indicators for which they have the ability to influence

Initially, this candidate will be responsible for the streamlining and management of the client accounting service, which includes our back office service offering, bookkeeping, write-up, and accounting clean up.  No audits, reviews, or compilations – yay!  Particular emphasis will be placed on standardizing workflows with an extreme emphasis on integrating technology, i.e., receipt bank, T-sheets, quickbooks online, right networks, fathom, etc.  The candidate will work closely with the managing members of the firm and have full access to the resources available through  To aid in the delivery of services the manager will be expected to train, develop, and supervise staff.

Required Qualifications
-CPA license with 5+ years of public accounting experience and 1+ year of client management experience
-BA/BS in Accounting
-Ability to work 50 to 55 hours a week during peak periods
-References from prior employers/supervisors/clients
