Tax Director

“In workplaces around the world, each one of us has been encouraged to identify, analyze, and correct our weaknesses in order to be strong.  This advice is well intended but misguided.  Faults and failings deserve study, but they reveal little about strengths.  Strengths have their own patterns”

-Marcus Buckingham, “Now, Discover Your Strengths"

At R.D. Barnett PLLC we are breaking the weakness spiral and prescribing in the strengths revolution set forth by the tenants found in the books, “First Break All the Rules”, “Now, Discover Your Strengths”, and “Strength Finder 2.0”.  One of the most significant findings put forth by these books is that most organizations are built on two flawed assumptions about people:

  1. Each person can learn to be competent in almost anything.
  2. Each person’s greatest room for growth is in his or her areas of greatest weakness.

If you are like us, you do not find pleasure in focusing your attention on your greatest areas of weakness.  This does not mean we neglect our weaknesses, but they are not the focal point for our development.  If we start with the right assumptions everything else that follows from them – how we select, measure, train, and develop our people will be right.

We believe in the following two assumptions:

  1. Each person’s talents are enduring and unique.
  2. Each person’s greatest room for growth is in the areas of his or her greatest strength.

We are careful to look for talent in every role, focusing our people’s performances on outcomes rather than forcing them into a stylistic mold.  We prefer to suspend whatever interest may exist in your weakness and instead explore the intricate detail of your strengths.  We believe these tenants will provide for a stronger organization, an organization designed to reveal and stretch the strengths of each employee.

To excel at our firm and to find lasting satisfaction in doing so, you will need to understand your unique patterns. Here is what we believe will be ideal strengths for this Tax Director candidate:

  • Career plans include being an accounting firm owner/shareholder/partner
  • Brings to the company a specific expertise, either industry or technical
  • Appreciates that proper front loading and clarification of review notes are a painful necessity in the development of staff
  • Reads self-help or business management books for pleasure
  • Explains the nuances of IRC 263A in less two sentences
  • Has an opinion on the debate between value billing versus charging by the hour
  • Is not afraid to open the tax software to make a update
  • May have a favorite team member, or two, that also wants to join the firm

The candidate for this position will play a significant role in shaping the future of R.D. Barnett PLLC – this includes defining the ideal client, building a team, developing solutions, and serving clients.  The expectation is the candidate for this position will eventually manage the Seattle office as an owner of the firm.
